A significant step for Brandenburg's academic landscape: Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) is the first non-state university in the state to be granted the right to award doctorates and habilitations. Science Minister Dr. Manja Schüle presented the corresponding certificate on October 16, 2025 in Brandenburg an der Havel.

The award of this right further strengthens the role of the MHB as a research-strong and practice-oriented university. At the same time, the Minister handed over the decision to extend the state recognition until 2031. This is a result of the successful institutional accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities, the most important science policy advisory body of the federal and state governments.

A milestone for science in the state of Brandenburg: with this success, the MHB is sending a strong signal for the further development of medical research and teaching in the region. As an innovative university with a focus on practice-oriented training and regional healthcare, it continues to gain in profile and attractiveness - also for specialists, researchers and students.
