Wanted nursing professions in Brandenburg

In Brandenburg, care assistants and care specialists are needed in many areas and with different qualifications. What training is required to work in the care sector in Brandenburg? Which qualifications are recognised as equivalent and what qualification options are there? Here you will find answers to the question of what kind of jobs are possible.

Recognition of qualifications

The nursing professions are regulated professions in Germany. In order to work in these professions, training, studies and other qualifications that were not acquired in Germany must be recognised. This equivalence assessment examines whether certain training content is missing compared to the German qualification and how this can be made up for. You can find more information about the process, which is the basis for employment, in the Recognition section.

Entry into Brandenburg

To enter the German federal state of Brandenburg, different documents are required depending on the country of origin. Citizens of the EU/EEA states and Switzerland as well as Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the USA can enter the country without a visa. Citizens of other countries generally require a visa, which is issued by the German representation in their home country. With a visa, you can apply for a residence permit in Germany. You will need this for employment as a carer. If the nursing qualification is not recognised as equivalent to training in Germany, you can first enter the country to take part in a recognition measure.

What makes the ‘Brandenburger Weg’ special

Working in the care sector in another country and in a new environment is a special challenge. With the ‘Brandenburger Weg’, Brandenburg wants to support and encourage labour and skilled workers living abroad who would like to work in Brandenburg. Special contact persons help in the various phases of the immigration process with personal counselling, the right addresses and contacts for qualification, recognition and arrival.

Learn German

Communication plays an important role in the care professions, which is why German language skills are required. Language skills at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) are often sufficient for finding a job and for obtaining a visa to participate in a compensatory measure in Germany. Further language skills can be acquired locally.

In Brandenburg, general German language skills at level B2 CEFR are currently sufficient to obtain a work permit as a recognised care worker. Participation in job-related language courses as part of the recognition procedure can be subsidised. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) is responsible for this. The IQ Network and your employer will support you in applying for funding.
