The capital region Berlin-Brandenburg is one of the world's leading locations with around 21,000 companies in the health industry - of which around 300 are medical technology companies, around 240 biotechnology companies and around 30 pharmaceutical companies. With a turnover of around 3.8 billion euros, the plastics and chemical industry is a formative industrial sector in Brandenburg with regional and supra-regional impact. As key technologies, photonics and microsystems technology form an interface between different technologies and are the basis for innovative products and services in the fields of medicine and communication technology. The products range from classic ophthalmic optics to the manufacture of light sources and luminaires to measurement technology as well as laser, LED and photodiode production. Centres of the microsystems technology, optics and photonics industry in the state of Brandenburg are the districts of Havelland, Potsdam-Mittelmark and Frankfurt (Oder).

The tourism industry in the state of Brandenburg is a strong and stable sector and has been on a continuous growth course for years.
