EU citizens and EFTA states
Have you found a job and are an EU citizen? Then welcome to Brandenburg! Below you will find some information and an overview of the most important framework conditions for working in Brandenburg.
If you would like to work in Brandenburg, as an EU citizen you can enter Germany without a visa and reside here under the EU's freedom of movement rules. All you need to enter the country is a valid identity card or comparable proof of identity. The same applies to citizens of Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
The EU Professional Qualifications Directive stipulates that professional qualifications are generally recognised as equivalent in all EU Member States.
Please note that for some professions (regulated professions), you must provide proof of recognition of your qualifications! We recommend that you go through the recognition procedure before starting to practise your profession.
Citizens of the EU, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland only need a valid passport or identity card to enter Germany (EU freedom of movement). Please note that you can stay in Germany for up to three months. In the state of Brandenburg, as in the rest of Germany, you are required to register your place of residence. If you are staying in Germany for a longer period, you must register with the relevant residents' registration office with your residential address no later than 14 days after entering the country. Registration is free of charge. The following documents are required:
- Do you require advice on the recognition of your university or professional qualifications? Utilise our Brandenburg recognition and qualification advice centres!
- You require valid health insurance from the first day of your arrival. Find out whether your existing health insurance covers German health insurance benefits.
