Over 140 companies and start-ups, the Konrad Wolf Film University Babelsberg, the Hasso Plattner Institute, the University of Potsdam, three start-up and media centres, more than 4,600 employees, 20 film and television studios with more than 4,000 film productions over more than 111 years, and over 469,000 square metres of space – the media city of Babelsberg in Potsdam is booming and growing significantly. Leading the way are MediaTech companies. The MediaTech Hub Potsdam (MTH) has been in existence since 2017; it is a consortium of media and technology companies, start-ups, universities and research institutions. On the initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, it was selected as one of twelve Digital Hubs – the only one with a focus on MediaTech. Under the umbrella of the Hub, new digital audio, visual and video-related technologies and business models are researched, developed and implemented. The interplay between future technologies, the visual power of the media and storytelling expertise gives rise to cross-sector solutions that can be applied beyond the entertainment industry to other sectors and small and medium-sized enterprises.

As part of the Digital Hub Initiative, the MediaTech Hub is integrated into Germany’s digital ecosystem and the associated national and international network. Events such as the MediaTech Hub Conference and programmes such as the MediaTech Hub Accelerator and the MediaTech Hub Space offer tailored support and networking opportunities.
