LWG Lausitzer Wasser GmbH & Co. KG

A reliable water supplier and training partner for decades

LWG Lausitzer Wasser GmbH & Co. KG is the leading company in Lusatia when it comes to water and wastewater. With around 180 employees, LWG ensures that approximately 125,000 people are reliably supplied with drinking water round the clock and that the wastewater produced is treated in an environmentally sound manner before being returned to the water cycle.

In addition, the company offers numerous services in the municipal and industrial sectors. Thanks to its extensive expertise in water management, LWG is also in demand for the design and restoration of former mining areas.

LWG Lausitzer Wasser GmbH & Co. KG takes on a special responsibility for the region by offering young people career opportunities. It is already the largest consortium-based training provider for the water sector in Lusatia. In its training workshop, around 75 apprentices are currently being trained, primarily as plant mechanics. In addition to training its own future workforce, the company provides training for apprentices from more than 20 partner companies in Lusatia and beyond. In addition, LWG supports an average of around 10 students from regional universities of applied sciences, colleges and universities with their work placements, Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, or work-related activities within its departments.

On nine occasions, the nation’s top apprentice in the field of plant mechanics has come from our company, and twice – in 2011 and 2019 – our training workshop was awarded the Brandenburg Training Prize. In 2016, LWG was the first company in the Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce district to receive the ‘Seal of Excellence in Apprenticeship Training’ from the Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and has successfully retained it every two years since then.

As part of its structural transformation, the company is currently planning the expansion and digital transformation of its vocational training in water management into the Lausitz Water Management Training Centre. The key objectives are the digitalisation and greater flexibility of apprenticeships, as well as the expansion of training, further education and supplementary programmes, and the development of dual and apprenticeship-integrated degree programmes. The project has been recognised by the Brandenburg state government as an exceptionally important structural strengthening initiative to secure a skilled workforce for the Lausitz region and is expected to be implemented by the end of 2025.
