Green and modern. At the traditional DB maintenance depot, which first began operations back in the 1870s as the ‘Royal Main Workshop in Kottbus’, DB’s first facility for major maintenance of high-speed trains is being built. 1,200 jobs, including around 100 apprenticeship places, will be created. The first ICE 4 trains are due to undergo maintenance as early as 2024.
What makes it special is that XXL ICE trains, comprising 13 carriages and 918 seats, will be able to enter the facility at full length.
The overhaul times for an ICE 4 are set to be reduced from 5 to 2 weeks. Ergonomic workstations are being created thanks to raised tracks, allowing staff to work easily on side panels and wheel sets. Staff will be able to work on bogies using a specially developed bogie changer without having to do any heavy lifting.
Already this year, around 100 young people will begin their dual vocational training and dual study programmes at the Cottbus railway depot. There are still training places available, for example, for those interested in the role of electronics technician for industrial engineering.
