The tourism industry in the state of Brandenburg is a strong and stable sector and has been on a continuous growth course for years. It is determined by the unique landscape, castles and palaces, historic town centres, large protected areas rich in forests and water with opportunities for rural holidays, water sports, cycling and hiking. Around 100,000 people in employment in Brandenburg are directly employed in the tourism industry or work in companies or institutions that provide preliminary services for tourism businesses. In addition, tourism is of considerable structural importance. Especially in rural areas, it contributes significantly to regional development. Here, tourism shapes the townscape and quality of life and thus makes regions more attractive for companies that want to settle in Brandenburg because of the appealing living environment.
