Brandenburg is a modern educational state. Every year, around 1,000 new teachers are recruited. All teachers who wish to do so and who meet the requirements are civil servants. The best conditions for committed teachers to enter an attractive employment and living environment in Brandenburg.
Primary school teachers (Primary: classes 1 to 6) are - like the teachers with credentials for secondary schools (Sek I and II) (including occupational specialisations) and for remedial education - paid according to A 13. The salary of primary teachers with credentials according to the law of the former GDR will also be raised as of 1 August 2020. With 27 obligatory hours (at primary schools) or 25 (all other schools), our teachers have teaching duties that are moderate in comparison to other states. This means they have enough time for lesson preparation and follow-up, further training, parent-teacher meetings and school conferences.

Lehrer werden in Brandenburg (Becoming a teacher in Brandenburg)
Almost 255,000 children and teenagers are currently learning at approximately 740 public schools, many of which have been recently built or completely renovated. More than 19,700 teachers are employed by the state.
The school system is divided into 402 primary schools (excluding primary schools at secondary schools and comprehensive schools), 117 secondary schools, 22 comprehensive schools and 77 grammar schools. In terms of vocational training there are 25 Oberstufenzentrum (equivalent to sixth-form colleges, OSZ) for providing the academic part of dual vocational education and training, technical colleges for obtaining the advanced technical certificate, and technical colleges for social services, technology and economics. Following the foundation level at primary schools (classes 1 to 6), education continues at the secondary and comprehensive schools (classes 7 to 10), then to secondary level II at comprehensive schools (classes 11 to 13) and grammar schools (classes 11 to 12). The Abitur (equivalent to A levels) can be taken at comprehensive schools and OSZs after 13 years, and after 12 years at grammar schools.
Berlin and Brandenburg are closely linked. Our objective is a joint Berlin-Brandenburg educational region. This is why the lesson contents of both states are closely linked together Since the 2017/2018 school year there is a new, joint skeleton curriculum for classes 1 to 10.
