Cluster
Plastics and chemicals are two industrial sectors that shape Brandenburg's economy and have a regional and supra-regional impact. As suppliers to numerous industries, both at home and abroad, the companies in the cluster make an important contribution to the global value creation network with their products and services.
Together, the cluster comprises 13,620 employees subject to social insurance contributions, who generate a turnover of around 3.73 billion euros in 571 companies.
In 2018, 32 chemical companies and 81 companies producing plastic and rubber products with more than 20 employees subject to social security contributions were listed in Brandenburg. This makes the plastics and chemicals cluster one of the smaller Brandenburg-specific clusters, but still very powerful economically. Companies in the plastics and chemical industry - from regionally oriented micro-enterprises to globally active corporations - are spread throughout the state and contribute to economic development and employment. In addition, there are the chemical and industrial locations of Schwedt/Oder, Premnitz, Guben, Schwarze Pumpe and Schwarzheide, as well as in the Prignitz and in the Ruppiner Land with their mix of medium-sized and large companies that determine the structure.
